Best Neighborhoods in Madison, WI

Cottage Grove

We love working in the village of Cottage Grove. Hit the Bakken Park Splash Pad with the kids, or enjoy summer Music in the Grove. Cottage Grove is home to a variety of great outdoor walking trails and an outdoor sports complex. We especially appreciate Cottage Grove’s great sustainability initiatives like inexpensive rain barrels available community-wide. Kids in Cottage Grove attend Manona Grove Schools, known for its well-rounded, inclusive, and individualized curriculum. 

Deforest

Hike the trails on the banks of the Yahara River, play at the brand new outdoor athletic complex, or take your pup to the local dog park. The village of Deforest is an excellent balance of fantastic outdoor amenities and a nostalgic neighborhood feel. Just 10 minutes northeast of Madison, you’re never far from the big city fun. Enjoy fun summer festivals like the Dragon Art Fair in May and local music in the park.

Windsor

Windsor, WI, is a relatively small village. It features the Token Creek Conservator, which supplies healthy trout and beautiful walking trails. Enjoy the WindsorFest downtown on the last Saturday in September. Windsor families attend Deforest Area Schools, known for small class sizes and an emphasis on technology.

McFarland

The village of McFarland McFarland Schools values student voice and choice and provides frequent feedback for individualized learning. McFarland’s motto, “Naturally Connected,” is supported by its ample walking trails and scenic preserves. McFarland is about 10 minutes southeast of Madison, which makes its idyllic backdrop all the more ideal.

Waunakee

The village of Waunakee is about 10 minutes northwest of Madison in an idyllic small-town setting. This cozy village was established in 1871 and oozes charm and history. Waunakee area schools boast excellent extracurricular and academic options. Waunakee is growing! Exiting new amenities like the recently proposed aquatic center are on the horizon.

Sun Prairie 

Sun Prairie is located about 20 minutes east of Madison in Northern Dane County. Sun Prairie Area School District offers standout K4-12 programming and a shiny new $100 million High School. Sun Prairie’s retail spaces are rapidly expanding. Locals love having Cabela’s and Costco in their backyard. Sun Prairie is home to fantastic local characters and fun. For example, residents gathered in Cannery Square this year for the 74th Annual Groundhog Prognostication. The town explodes with discounts, decorations, and groundhog cameos. Sun Prairie’s commitment to fun shines throughout the year, making this one of our favorite places to work in greater Madison.
